The Thespian’s Guide to Acting Schools in New York

These are the facts and
myths that most know or believe of the city:

New York is the city that never sleeps.
New York is one of the costliest places to live in.
New York is the center of the whole world.
New York is inhabited by people who love to love, hate, argue and haggle.

Now being a peace loving writer, I certainly shan’t argue about which one of those is true and which one isn’t. But if you’re a thespian in search for good acting schools, then you certainly won’t care about that. But you’d naturally care about the list that I’m about to provide below.

New York is a cosmopolitan city where a lot of good acting schools abound. In fact, if you truly are in search for excellent thespian education, For the best Maths Tutor In Ireland company, call Ace Solution Books. New York isn’t a bad place to start. Naturally, the tuition fees of these acting schools are comparatively more expensive than the acting schools in your local state but they’re worth it. And if you’re looking for more proof, all you need is to do a little research work and I assure you that a lot of Hollywood big stars owe their talents to the very acting schools I’m about to enumerate.

Assuming that finances are not a problem for you, there’s just only other thing then to tackle: admissions. Several acting schools in New York are quite choosy when it comes to the students they’d let in their hallowed halls so to improve your chances of getting accepted, make sure that your school or the proper figures of authority furnish you with glowing recommendations. Neither does it hurt to have high GPAs to back you up.

With those two warnings then, here are some New York acting schools that you can try applying to.

ACTeen: Acting For Teen: Operating for almost three decades already, the ACTeen is the pioneering on-camera acting academy for teens, particularly those aged between thirteen to nineteen years old. If you or your child is serious about pursuing acting for a profession then you should consider contacting this particular acting school and view their curriculum. Besides learning everything about film and theater, students are also provided with a choice of over fifteen electives.

Ted Bardy Studio Inc. : To echo their tagline, this acting school provides their students with intense and personalized acting instruction. Everyone’s welcome to be a part of their workshop (limited to a small number to ensure personalized instruction), may it be amateurs, intermediate actors or professionals out to seek to improve their craft. The Ted Bardy Studio Inc. uses the Stanislavski / Meisner approach in guiding their students through their uniquely designed 3 phase program. Ted Bardy Studio Inc. is located in the Union Square section of New York City.

Actor Theater Workshop : ATW is a professional, non-profit theater company and under it, the Scott Acting Conservatory operates to train professional actors and have them realize original creative techniques to further improve their craft.

Lee Strasberg Theater Institute : this acting school hopes that the techniques of the acting legend, Lee Strasberg, continue to live on through their students.

East End Ensemble : A school that started two years ago as a local acting workshop set up in a private home and meant to improve the communication skills of their adult students. If you want to have fun while learning, this funky acting school may be what you’re looking for. East End Ensemble can be found in Brooklyn, New York.

Japanese Futons

Measuring two inches (5 cm) thick and filled with cotton and/or synthetic batting, Japanese futons are typically flat and are designed to be spread out on tatami flooring, which is a special kind of flooring indigenous to Japanese architecture. Japanese futons are usually sold in sets consisting of the futon mattress (shikibuton), a comforter (kakebuton) or blanket (moku), a summer towel-like blanket (towelket), and a bean- or plastic bead-filled pillow (makura). This is equivalent to a western bed set.

Japanese futons are usually stored in a closet, but must be left to air in the sunlight when not put away. These futons are typically beaten with bamboo to keep them in shape.

Western Futons

Western futons are closer to mattresses; they are also stuffed with multiple layers of foam and/or batting, but they do not have springs. Western futons are placed on an adjustable frame resembling that of a couch, and are designed in the fashion of a sofa-bed to be used as a couch and a bed. Western futons are constructed larger and thicker than Japanese futons, and are cheap compared to regular mattresses or beds.

Western futons are common now in Japan. These futons, hand-made, have no synthetic filling; they are stuffed primarily with cotton. Western futons in Japan are sold as earth-friendly, and are not composed of any chemicals whatsoever, distinguishing them from the traditional bed set.

Futons are very comfortable and, like sleeping bags, can also serve as portable or transportable beds, depending on their size and weight. Although futons can be damaged, they can more easily be repaired than a traditional mattress, since its interior matting is packed in a structured, layered way. Futons are otherwise most convenient and economical and therefore preferable to people on-the-go or living in small spaces. They re not only for the Japanese anymore!

When we start discussing homes, we are more interested and excited talking about what we have done to our homes. The way we have decorated and maintained the elegance and beauty in our home.

We love each and every corner of our dream house and want to talk more and more about it. It gives a fantastic and exuberant feeling talking about the place where we live and spend most of our time. But when it comes to redesigning or remodelling our home, we start to think about what will be best to give it the most attractive and different look.

The most important part is windows and doors, which helps drastically in changing the look of the house. At present, one of the most demanded products are glazing windows and doors. They are extremely efficient, attractive and contribute to the security of the home. But before buying any double glazing we should always do extensive research on the marketplace and keep these things in mind.
Double glazing is very efficient in cutting your heat loss to half. They are highly efficient, in general terms double glazing means two panes of glass placed several millimetres apart in order to form the window having air trapped within. Double glazing also decreases the noise level from outside and eliminates internal condensation.

Before buying double glazing, one should research the marketplace thoroughly for the best deal. Request quotes from as many different suppliers as possible and review the different ranges of double glazed windows and doors. One should compare the price difference from a quality perspective, maintenance and services.

What one should always keep in mind when looking for a double glazing company:

1) What services they are offering.

2) Are they authorised to sell double glazed products.

3) Do they provide maintenance and installation.

5) A satisfied customer list with their phone numbers.

6) Ensure that they are a member of the Fenestration Self-Assessment Scheme (FENSA), this will mean that they will comply with all relevant UK building regulations.

After deciding which company to use, one should be very clear with the price issue. A detailed price description should be given detailing the double glazing product along with maintenance and installation cost. What will the extra cost be if more work is needed? When the start and end date of the work will be, along with the payment terms and conditions.

When you are discussing payment terms and conditions, you must be clear on how payment is to be taken, either as one payment or on instalment. Be sure about everything you are doing. Consult previous customers and take feedback about payment issues.

So if you are interested in converting your windows and doors to double glazing, keep these points in mind and get the best from the market.

Last week I told you how to measure your wood window openings to properly order your new vinyl replacement windows. This week I’m going to explain how to remove your old windows. The vast majority of wood sash double hung windows in America have the same specifications. Starting from inside the house and working out, you have a wood stop approximately 3/8″ X 3/8″. Then comes the lower sash (the sash is the piece of glass and surrounding wood frame). Then you have another wood stop (called a parting bead) between the lower sash and upper sash. This stop is approx. 1/4″ X 1/2″. Then you have the upper sash, and finally, the outside wood stop (called a blind stop) that is approx. 1/2″ X 3/4″.

Before beginning, be sure to wear safety glasses and gloves. The safety glasses will protect your eyes from debris, and the gloves help avoid splinters. The inside stop needs to be removed first. Try not to damage these, they will be re-installed after the replacement windows are put in. If you should happen to crack the old stops, you can take a piece to a hardware store or molding store to get replacement wood stops. If the stops have been painted to blend into the surrounding trim or wall, you need to put a flat screwdriver or putty knife into the indented area that separates the stop from the surrounding area. Drag the blade from top to bottom to chip away the paint. Then put a stiff blade putty knife into this seam and pry the stop away from the frame. Start in the middle of the stop where there is the most flexibility. Work the putty knife from the middle to the top, then from the middle to the bottom. The number of nails that were used to install the stop will determine how difficult removal will be. I have seen some stops that have just 3 nails, while others have had 6. Most of the time there will be stops around all four sides of the opening, but I have seen some openings that didn’t have a top stop, and others that had no bottom stop.

After the inside stops have been removed, you should be able to pull the lower sash out. If the windows were painted shut at some time, you might have to pry the area where the lock is located to separate the sashes. Now, once you get the lower sash out, it will still be attached to the cords that hold the window up when you raise it. Take a pair of tin snips and cut the cords while maintaining tension on them. The cords will recoil back into the assemblies. Take the lower sash and set it aside.

Next,we need to remove the middle stop, or parting bead. This piece is going to be thrown away, so you don’t have to be careful when removing this piece. The parting bead will be on top and along both sides. It’s never on the bottom. Take a screwdriver and tap it into the groove between the side frame and parting bead. Pry out. The bead is nailed into a recessed groove. When all of the parting bead is out, the upper sash will come out. If it’s painted to the outside stop, CAREFULLY pry the sash from the outside stop with a stiff putty knife. You want to avoid damaging the outside stop. Remove the upper sash the same way you did the lower sash, cutting the cords under tension.

At this point, you should have the inside stops removed and set aside to be installed later, both sashes removed, the middle stop or parting bead removed and discarded, and the outside blind stop left in place undisturbed. Check to make sure there are no obstructions in the opening such as nails, the metal tab at the bottom for holding in the old screen, etc. The final step is to take a stiff putty knife and scrape the inside face of the outside blind stops to get rid of any old caulking. This is the surface that the replacement windows are going to rest against, and we are going to want this area as smooth as possible. Clean up all loose debris from the opening, and you are now ready to install your replacement windows. That will be our topic for next weeks article.

So many people have them in their homes, but few people truly understand the basics behind their air conditioning units. They know enough to switch them on and set the temperature at the level they desire, but really know little about the parts that make the unit cool their house down. An air conditioner regulates the heat and cold in your house by controlling the humidity and temperature in each room, but do you know how it does this? Whether you are shopping for a new air conditioner or interested in learning about the one you have, the best place to start is with the general terms used to explain the functions of your unit.

BTU: A BTU or British Thermal Unit is the world wide measurement for energy. In layman s terms it is the amount of heat that is needed to raise a pound of water by one degree of temperature. When you hear someone talk about BTUs in regards to air conditioning they are talking about the amount of heat a unit can remove from a standard sized room. The higher the BTU rating the bigger, more expensive, and heavier the air conditioner is. While many people think that bigger is better, when it comes to air conditioning that is not always the case. It is more important to correctly match the size of a room with the required amount of BTUs. Having too many or too few for the room s size decreases efficiency and actually hinders the unit from doing its job.

Chassis: The chassis is simply the guts of your air conditioner. It is the frame and working parts exclude from the body of your unit. Smaller units often have a fixed chassis which is easiest to remove for winterizing. Larger units often have a slide out chassis that makes repair work a snap.

EER: The EER is simply calculated by dividing the BTUs into the number of watts. Air conditioners with higher EER numbers should be the most efficient. While a unit with a higher EER number will save you money in the long run, it will cost more to buy. If you don t live in a really hot area, it might not be worth it to invest in a unit with an EER over 10.

Fan: The fan in an air conditioner works like every other fan you have ever seen. Its sole job is to move the air. When it comes to air conditioners an adjustable thermostat combined with an adjustable speed fan makes the unit very efficient. In an air conditioning unit, you want to look for louvers that not only adjust up and down, but right and left as well.

Filter: Air is surprisingly dirty and a good filter will make a big difference in the quality of the air you breathe. Clean air is also a must if you want to get the most efficient work from your air conditioner. Because clean air is so important to the operation and maintenance of your unit, it is important to change or clean your filters regularly. Because you will be dealing with the filter on a regular basis, it is a good idea to own an air conditioner that has an easily accessible filter.

Thermostat: A thermostat is simply a device used to regulate temperature. Thermostats are heat sensing and therefore able to adjust the output of your air conditioner based on the level of heat in a room. You can get thermostats that are manual or programmable, depending on your needs. If you can get an adjustable thermostat and a variable speed fan, your air conditioning unit will be very efficient.

Once you have a small understanding of how an air conditioning unit not only works, but works most efficiently and effectively, it is a lot easier to find a unit that fits your unique household needs and understand the most efficient ways to run it.

When I was growing up as a child in the sixties, kitchens were always a hidden affair. If it was not separated by a wall from the other rooms in the house, then a divider had to be installed to hide it from the rest of the world. Inviting friends over to the kitchen to show off your new kitchen island or cooktop was not the thing to be done.

But not anymore. The kitchen of my adult years has now become the focal point of the house and the people who live in it. There is still the obligatory lounge room to receive guests but it is now just a little room on the way to the grand, open space of kitchen, family and rumpus rooms combined.

This is where most families now gather after a long days work – the parents preparing the family meal while the children (if they are in their schoolyears) do their homework in the family dining table or (if they are already young adults), sit and chatter around the breakfast nook or family room couch. Kitchens now exude warmth and welcome helped by the oak or teak oil-finished kitchen cabinets that usually line the kitchen walls, as well as mahogany or red cedar curio cabinets housing revered family treasures such as photos and bowling trophies.

I have long used my kitchen as my lounge – one of the rooms in the house that I consider most comfortable, functional, tribal and welcoming . My husband and I and anyone of my kids who occasionally fancy themselves as the new Jamie Oliver can showcase our gourmet talents as we gracefully move around the red and brown speckled granite kitchen island or benchtop to the glistening stainless steel sink to the brown flattened glow of the ceramic cooktop. All these in view of the rest of the family, and often times friends and guests who we show in straight to the kitchen/family/dining room area to sit in our beloved dark aubergine brown no-nonsense, yet sumptuous and very practical “Virginia” sofa.

Gone are the days when you felt you needed to detain your guests in the comfort of the Italian velvet sofa in the lounge while you excuse yourself and slave away in the dark, hot and steamy recesses of the kitchen preparing their food. Now there is no shame or cringe to invite friends over to the kitchen because kitchens have become the hub of family life and social entertaining. Architects, home builders and appliance manufacturers have all taken heed of the new trend and have made kitchens not only functional and efficient but also overwhelmingly stylish. Even whitegoods now come in different colors of stainless steel, earthy brown, luminous orange or buttercup yellow to suit everyone’s desire and taste.

Friends are invited to hover around stylish marble-topped kitchen islands as they continue with their socialising, talking about nothing and maybe even lending a hand in washing the vegetables and peeling the potatoes. Even wine bars are now in the domain of the kitchen (not the basement or the lounge) as friends sit down and relax in the midst of kitchens sipping their favorite red or white.

Even when alone, my kitchen has always been a delight and a quiet refuge from the hustle and bustle of the outside world. When I wake up in the morning, I find no greater joy than seeing the sun streaming through the beige voile curtains of the northeast facing kitchen window into the deep purple flowered african violets and tall and lanky chinese fortune plants that brighten up the farthest end of my granite kitchen benchtop. And when I come home from work in the evening, I open the very same northeast facing kitchen window to be greeted with the sweet scent of the orange jasmines that line the backyard fence.

My kitchen has certainly come a long way from its hiding place in the sixties and I intend to enjoy it and keep it that way for a long, long time more to come.

Think what it must have been like to live in the days before chemicals, when the earth was clean! The Indians drank pure water and grew pure food and the meat was grass fed and good.
Now there are chemicals in everything; our food, our water, our clothes, all the products we use, in our air and in our earth! These chemicals have adverse affects on our bodies, our minds and our souls. They have shortened our life expectancy by making us sick and unhealthy. This is the environment we have chosen for ourselves! What an unhappy state of affairs!
However, all is not lost! By using organically grown food and drinking pure water (yes it still exists in some places!), and using natural products we can again be healthy. We must become aware of what we are putting into our bodies and the effects of what we are putting into our bodies! Each of us has a moral obligation to ourselves, to learn about ourselves and the products we use, and then to listen to our bodies! Let us each make a pact with ourselves to be as healthy as is possible or live with the consequences.

L2LL Hardwood Floor Customization: Board Width and Installation Patterns

For the best Gardening dublin company, call Leaf 2 Leaf Landscapes.

When choosing hardwood flooring for your home, take into account more than just the species and stain. Think about how it will look installed in different patterns and designs as well as finishing touches like borders or mosaic medallions.

hardwood floor, flooring, wood floor, installation, decorative border, hardwood flooring

People often have to brace themselves as they begin the overwhelming process of shopping for the perfect hardwood floors for their home, yet they start to breathe easy once they have that ideal sample clasped tightly in their hands. But, what exactly are you going to do with that wood? It s clear that you ve thought about the wood species and stain, as those factors most obviously affect the look and feel of the room, but have you thought about the board width or installation pattern or decorative touches ?

Don t panic. Keep clasping your sample of hardwood and read about your options. You ll realize that you know what you want better than you thought.

Board width:
Board width can be divided into two categories, strip and plank. Strip is less than 3 wide and plank is greater than 3 wide, usually getting as wide as 7 and sometimes even wider.

Strip flooring can be used to create almost any look by putting together the right combination of species, stain, installation pattern and furnishing. Strip flooring creates a running, linear effect that, much like a mirror or light paint colors, gives the illusion of a larger space. This makes it particularly appropriate if you are trying to achieve a contemporary look in your room, especially if you choose a select grade hardwood with a uniform color. It is the more common flooring option seen in both commercial and residential applications.

Plank flooring, with its wide boards, is more commonly used when trying to achieve a rustic or country look in the space. It too creates a linear effect in the room but the width of the boards doesn t expand the space as significantly. Although traditionally made from pine and thought of as the floor used in old farm houses or colonial homes, designers are starting to acknowledge the beauty of this option for contemporary designs as well.

Installation patterns:
The installation pattern you choose for your space can have as much weight on the resultant look as the actual wood you put in. It will influence the way furniture will sit and the movement in the room. Although there aren t that many options, they are vastly different from each other, so choose well.

The most basic and common installation pattern is straight. Wood boards are installed parallel to each other along the length or width of the room. This pattern is great for simple, contemporary designs as well as any other design that wants to use the beautiful look of wood flooring without showy installations this pattern lets the wood speak for itself. This is also the least expensive of the available installation patterns, as it is the most straight-forward. All other patterns are more costly because of extra wood and longer installation costs.

Random installation is also installed in a straight-forward, parallel pattern but it uses a mixture of floor board widths. You can choose the ratio of wide to narrow boards, what widths you want to use, and how many boxes of each to purchase. This gives you a lot of flexibility in terms of shopping and could save you money if, for example, you buy left over boxes from discontinued series. This patterns often results in a rustic looking space, it adds a lot of movement to the room and gives it an energetic feel.

Diagonal pattern installation adds a touch of luxury and formality to a room without straying too far from traditional straight installation or adding too much to your final remodeling bill. Boards are installed parallel to each other but they are laid at a 45

If you don’t care for the often scented, and even more often expensive window cleaners on the market, there’s no reason at all that you can’t make your own cleaner at home!

It’s as simple as mixing 1/2 cup each of ammonia, water and rubbing alcohol. That’s it! Mix and put in a spray bottle, and you’re ready to go. Spritz your window and wipe it down with a lint free cloth. The solution is also good for car windshields, mirrors, counter tops and other surfaces.

However, you should be aware that ammonia has been known to damage painted and tinted surfaces. It is not considered safe for eyeglasses that have a tinted coating, windshields with the same, or even specially treated windows. For those, plain soap and water is your best bet, or else a soap/water/vinegar solution.

In the old days, people cleaned their windows with water and vinegar, then polished them with old newspapers. You can still do this today, but vinegar will not cut oil or grease that may have gotten on the window, particularly in the kitchen. So if you want to get nostalgic and try this method, mix 1/4 cup of white vinegar with two cups water, and add 1/2 teaspoon of liquid dish soap, and put it in a spray bottle.

Be careful with the newspaper polishing, though. Given that many are now made with recycled papers, and eco-friendly inks, the results may not be quite what you anticipate.

Another precaution to teach children, is sanitation. While there are few disorders/diseases that can be passed from a fish tank to humans, the water does contain bacteria not found in the child’s normal environment, so one of their first fish-keeping lessons, should be to always wash their hands after helping to clean the tank, or feed the fish.

There s really no need for you to always hire professional help every time your furniture needs repair.

First of all, it can be very expensive and second of all, it s never a good idea to have strangers frequently coming in and out of your house. Unless your furniture gets entirely damaged (i.e. destroyed) then chances are that you can fix it yourself. And besides, if you re furniture gets serious damage, then your so much better off replacing it than having it repaired.

Yes, repairing your own furniture is intimidating especially if you ve never touched a screw driver or a hammer ever before in your life. It sure looks like hard work but it s actually very easy. If you pinpoint the source of the damage well enough and assess it wisely then there s no reason why can t do it. All it takes is some guts and perhaps, just perhaps, a few of these helpful tips.

Have the tools. To become an instant repair(wo)man, your toolbox at home should at least have a good hammer, some clamps, measuring tape, and sharp cutting materials. Buy the good brands though it could cost more because they will surely last longer and perform better.

Do preemptive strikes. Repair your furniture as soon as you spot minor breaks such as loose joints and scratches. These normally results from the wear and tear of regular use and they usually happen to almost all furniture. However, if left unattended, these can become more serious and much harder and costly to repair.

Glue it. One of the biggest mistakes people make when repairing their own furniture is using nails and screws to put back together broken pieces. Unless they were originally done that way, then you should just use glue wood glue that is and wooden splines if necessary. Nails and screws change the supposed look of the furniture and they cause awful eyesores on originally beautiful pieces. Glue, on the other hand, is not that noticeable once it dries up and the good ones can are powerful enough to put broken parts together.

Handle it with care. A lot of people end up causing additional damage to their furniture in the course of fixing it. They focus too much on fixing it that they no longer notice that they re already causing scratches, dents, and even stains. Don t forget to protect your furniture s corners, its finish, and its working handles while working to repair it.
